The bottom line
COUNTRY Financial offers all the standard types of auto insurance that most drivers need, including liability, comprehensive, and collision coverage, as well as additional types of coverage add-ons, like roadside assistance and new car replacement.
Although COUNTRY Financial doesn’t have ratings from all three of the big credit rating agencies, the scores it does have are excellent. With an A+ from A.M. Best and one of the lowest complaint scores in the industry, COUNTRY Financial is a strong choice for customers looking for solid auto insurance coverage at low prices.
But COUNTRY Financial is only available in 19 states, and doesn’t offer auto insurance in California, Florida, or New York, among other states.
Basic coverages offered
Liability coverage: Liability insurance covers the costs if you damage someone else's car or injure another driver in an at-fault accident. Liability insurance is required in almost every state, but each state’s requirements are different, so check to see how much liability coverage you need to drive legally in your state.
Personal injury protection: Also known as PIP coverage, this helps cover the cost if you or your passengers are injured in an accident, no matter who is at fault. PIP is required in no-fault states.
Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage: Also known as UM/UIM, this covers you if you’re hit by an uninsured or underinsured driver.
Comprehensive coverage: Covers non-collision damage to your car, like flood, fire, vandalism, theft, and weather-related or animal-related damages.
Collision coverage: Covers the cost of the damage to your car in an accident, no matter who is at fault.
Medical payments coverage: Also known as MedPay, this helps with medical costs for you and your passengers if you get into a covered accident.
Additional coverages offered
New car coverage: Covers a brand new car (same make and model) if yours is less than four years old and is totaled in an accident. This coverage, called The Keeper at COUNTRY Financial, varies a bit by state, so verify how this coverage applies where you live before purchasing.
Emergency road service coverage: Also known as roadside assistance, this covers up to $100 toward breakdown repairs, like towing, fuel delivery, and lockout services.
Vehicle rental and trip interruption coverage: Covers the cost of a rental car if your car is damaged in an accident, along with expenses like transportation, lodging, and meals if you are in an accident more than 100 miles from home. Coverage and benefit limits vary by state, so check with COUNTRY Financial to see exactly how this benefit works where you live.
Personal effects coverage: Provides up to $800 in coverage for personal effects (like your phone or laptop) that are stolen from your car.
Safety glass coverage: Pays your comprehensive deductible if your windshield, car windows or headlight covers need repair.
COUNTRY Financial does not offer gap coverage, so drivers who have a loan or lease may need to purchase gap coverage elsewhere or choose a different insurer.
We compared the average cost of a full coverage policy from COUNTRY Financial (using data provided by Quadrant) to competitor rates. Our comparison used 50/100/50 coverage limits and $500 deductibles for comprehensive and collision coverage and a driver profile based on single drivers aged 30, 35, and 45 driving a 2017 Toyota Camry LE about 10,000 miles per year.
COUNTRY Financial does not have an available score on J.D. Power’s 2022 U.S. Auto Claims Satisfaction Study or on J.D. Power’s 2022 U.S. Insurance Digital Experience Study, which looks at customer satisfaction with a company’s digital offerings, However, COUNTRY Financial has one of the lowest scores we’ve seen on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) National Complaint Index Report, which means COUNTRY Financial had very few customer complaints in 2021.
COUNTRY Financial offers 19 different types of auto insurance coverage, giving it a very good score when it comes to coverage options. Beyond the standard auto insurance coverage types, including liability, comprehensive, and collision coverage, COUNTRY Financial offers add-ons like personal effects coverage and safety glass coverage.
COUNTRY Financial has good financial ratings, scoring an A+ with AM Best, but it doesn’t have a rating with S&P or Moody’s. This means COUNTRY Financial is likely in a decent financial position to pay out its customers’ claims, but the missing scores from two of the big financial companies means we have less information to compare with other companies in the industry.

Frequently asked questions
What kind of insurance is COUNTRY Financial?
COUNTRY Financial is a property and casualty (P&C) insurance company that started out by selling fire and lightning insurance in1925. It has since expanded into a variety of other coverages, including car and motorcycle insurance, homeowner and renters insurance, business owners’ coverage, farm and livestock coverage, winery and craft brewery coverage, and pet insurance.
What is the most trusted insurance company?
This is a complicated question. USAA, Erie, and State Farm top our list of best overall insurance companies, but that isn’t necessarily the same thing as being the most trusted company. For example, of the companies we reviewed, COUNTRY Financial and NJM have the lowest number of NAIC complaints, but Amica has the highest scores on the J.D. Power Claims Satisfaction survey. Determine what factors are the most important to you to find the car insurance company that will best meet your needs.
What is the rating for COUNTRY Mutual Insurance Company?
