An accidental death, or accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) rider, is a promise that the insurer will pay an additional amount if death occurs from one of the accidents specifically listed in the rider.
Unless you work in a high-risk job, it's probably not worth the extra cost. Insurers rarely have to pay an accidental death rider, which makes it a great add-on from the insurer's point of view but not worth very much to you.
