Updated May 31, 2019: Get ready for a sugar rush. National Doughnut Day rolls around every first Friday in June. This year, it's June 7. To celebrate the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I, baked goods chains across the nation give away the sweet treat for free — or at least pretty close to it.

Here are the places you can get a free doughnut on June 7, aka National Doughnut Day 2019 aka National Donut Day.

1. Krispy Kreme

This famous chain is promising to give away 1 million doughnuts this year. You can get a free doughnut of your choice at participating locations, no purchase necessary.

2. Duck Donuts

Enjoy a free classic doughnut — bare, cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar — at any participating locations.

3. Dunkin' Donuts

Visit your nearest participating location and get a free classic doughnut with the purchase of any beverage. The deal runs all day while supplies last. Classic doughnuts include Boston Kreme, Glazed, Glazed Chocolate and Strawberry Frosted with Sprinkles.

4. Honey Dew Donuts

Visitors to this New England chain can get a free S’More Donut with the purchase of any medium or larger-sized beverage. Offer is one per customer, while supplies last. Substitutions come at a participating location's discretion.

5. LaMar's Donuts & Coffee

If you live in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri or Nebraska, swing by a participating location for a free doughnut. No purchase is necessary, but the offer only applies to doughnuts with holes.

6. Cumberland Farms

Stop by one of the chain's newly remodeled stores in the Northeast and Florida between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m on June 1 to get a free doughnut with the purchase of a Farmhouse Blend coffee or Chill Zone beverage.

Win doughnuts for a year

A well-known doughnut purveyor are running contests in lieu of freebies-for-all this year.

Entenmann's Chief Donut Officer contest touts a grand prize of $5,000, company swag and a year's supply of doughnuts. Four runners-up will get $1,000 and doughnuts for a year. Full rules are on the company's website.
