Cost sharing reduction

A definition of cost sharing reduction.

What you need to know

A cost sharing reduction, sometimes called extra savings, is a discount on deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. A cost sharing reduction is not the same as a premium tax credit. Unlike premium tax credits, which apply to all metal plans, cost sharing reductions can only be used on Silver plans. If you qualify for and receive a cost sharing reduction, you will also receive a lower out-of-pocket maximum.
