Ah, summer. It’s that wonderful time of year when temperatures rise and we get the urge to go somewhere new to enjoy the great weather. And 87% of people plan to travel this summer, up 6% from last year, according to travel planning site TripAdvisor.

But where to go? It looks like places in Michigan, Maine and Rhode Island are topping traveler’s lists, based on TripAdvisor’s survey.

It also found most travelers (47%) are headed to the beach/ocean and 38% are looking for an adventure in a city.

No matter where you decide to travel, whether you’re taking a lavish getaway or a staycation, it’s going to be more enjoyable if you plan your summer budget ahead of time. After all, who wants to go on vacation just to stress about money? Once you get a sense of how much you’ve got in the getaway fund, you can start looking at your destination options.

To get started, take a look at the 10 most popular U.S. travel locations for 2018, which TripAdvisor established by looking at the increase in booking interest of hotels and flights from spring to summer.
