Feeling down after the long Memorial Day weekend? You're about to get a sugar rush. National Doughnut Day rolls around every first Friday in June. This year, it's June 1. To celebrate the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I, baked goods chains across the nation give away the sweet treat for free — or at least pretty close to it.
Here are the places you can get a free doughnut on June 1, aka National Doughnut Day 2018 aka National Donut Day.
1. Krispy Kreme
Get a free doughnut of your choice at participating locations, no purchase necessary.
2. Duck Donuts
Enjoy a free classic doughnut — bare, cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar — after visiting a participating location. Bonus: You'll get a "buy one, get one" free doughnut coupon, redeemable before June 17, 2018.
3. Dunkin' Donuts
Visit your nearest participating location and get a free classic doughnut with the purchase of any beverage. The deal runs all day while supplies last. Classic doughnuts include Boston Kreme, Glazed, Glazed Chocolate and Strawberry Frosted with Sprinkles.
4. Honey Dew Donuts
Visitors to this New England chain can get a free S’More Donut with the purchase of any medium or larger-sized beverage. Offer is one per customer, while supplies last. Substitutions come at a participating location's discretion.
5. LaMar's Donuts & Coffee
If you live in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri or Nebraska, swing by a participating location for a free doughnut. No purchase is necessary, but the offer only applies to doughnuts with holes.
6. Cumberland Farms
Stop by one of the chain's newly remodeled stores in the Northeast and Florida between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m on June 1 to get a free doughnut with the purchase of a Farmhouse Blend coffee or Chill Zone beverage. You can find a remodeled store near you on the chain's website.
Win doughnuts for a year
Two well-known doughnut purveyors are running contests in lieu of freebies-for-all this year.
Entenmann's Chief Donut Officer contest touts a grand prize of $5,000, company swag and a year's supply of doughnuts. Four runners-up will get $1,000 and doughnuts for a year. You have until June 30 to fill out an entry form. Full rules are on the company's website.
Meanwhile, Tim Horton's is running a Willy Wonka-esque contest in which five customers can score free doughnuts for a year by being the first person to ask for its new 24k gold-covered Timbits in one of five stores secretly selected to carry them.
If you're not big on contests, but always on the hunt for freebies, we've rounded up 50 other things you can get for free this summer here.
